- Helps in credit transfer, especially if you move between universities or want to combine courses.
- IGNOU students are required to create an ABC ID to link their academic records.
- Format: usually an alphanumeric ID like ABC1234567890.
How to Create:
- Visit 👉 https://abc.gov.in
- Sign in with your DigiLocker account (Aadhaar linked).
- Generate your ABC ID.
- Submit this ABC ID on IGNOU’s portal (during admission or re-registration).
DEB ID (Distance Education Bureau ID)
Full Form: Distance Education Bureau ID
Purpose:
This is not an individual student ID, but rather an institutional code assigned by the Distance Education Bureau (DEB) under UGC to universities like IGNOU.
Key Points:
- It identifies the approval status of programs offered through distance learning.
- Each program/course that IGNOU offers under ODL (Open and Distance Learning) has a DEB approval number or reference ID.
- Students don’t need to create or submit a DEB ID — it’s used officially by IGNOU for recognition and reporting.
In short:
Term | Full Form | Who Uses It | Purpose |
ABC ID | Academic Bank of Credits ID | Student | For storing and transferring credits digitally |
DEB ID | Distance Education Bureau ID | University (IGNOU) | For course approval and recognition by UGC |
