Eligibility Criteria

Candidates seeking admission to the Ph.D. in Journalism and Mass Communication programme must fulfill the following criteria:

  • The candidate should possess a Master’s Degree in Journalism and Mass Communication or a related discipline from a recognized university.
  • Candidates must have secured:
    • Minimum 55% marks or equivalent grade in the qualifying examination
    • Minimum 50% marks for SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) and Differently-Abled categories, as per UGC norms
  • Candidates must produce a valid UGC-NET certificate issued by the National Testing Agency (NTA), indicating eligibility for:
    • Ph.D. only
    • Ph.D. and Lectureship
    • Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)

Programme Duration Guidelines

The Ph.D. programme follows the guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC):

  • Minimum duration: 3 years (including coursework)
  • Maximum duration: 6 years from the date of registration

Candidates are required to complete the coursework, research proposal, and doctoral thesis within the stipulated duration.
